You obviously probably already know that your pickup truck or other towing vehicle has to be properly licensed and registered. What you might not know, though, is that your utility trailer has to be registered in order to be used on the road in many states, too. 2. Gather Your Documentation
Next, you'll need to gather up documentation about the trailer so that you can register it. If it has been registered in the past, then having its old registration paperwork will probably be helpful. You'll probably also need to bring along proof of ownership—such as a bill of sale or a receipt—as well as your ID. You will probably have to pay a fee to register your trailer, too, so you will want to bring along the money for that as well.
3. Head to a Local Title and Registration Office
Lastly, you will need to head to your local title and registration office. Someone there might be able to help you with registering your utility trailer on the spot. This will make it easy for you to put your utility trailer to use right away. The process for this is different from place to place, but someone might inspect your trailer and evaluate its value before allowing you to register it. Information about the trailer, such as the VIN, will probably be entered into the system, and information about the owner is usually documented during this process as well.
